Michelin Visionary Concept
2nd September 2017As the focus for our cars becomes more environmentally friendly, Michelin have taken the task on for tyres designing a completely biodegradable tyre which is impervious to punctures and communicates to the driver.
The futuristic tyre is airless and made up from organic recycled materials, with the intention of lasting as long as the vehicle. Its durability coming from its unique dual design which is based on a honeycomb-like structure. The tyre will be completely recyclable at the end of its long life, reflecting Michelin’s ‘4R Strategy’ named Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Renew.
The tyre tread delivers the same performance as a normal tyre, however, there is one big difference. The tread can be replenished in a matter of minutes by a 3D printer which adds the quantity of material necessary to enable you to continue driving. This means if your tyres are worn, you need winter tyres or are preparing to drive in off-road conditions, you can have your tyres re-treaded quicker than having a normal tyre replaced.
The Michelin Visionary Concept will also have the ability to communicate to the driver via an app. This means that without even stepping out of your vehicle you can access information such as the wear on your tyres and you can programme a reprint, choosing the tyre tread pattern you need at the particular time for your intended tyre use.
